Circadian rhythm of cell proliferation in rat liver: synchronization by feeding habits.
نویسندگان
چکیده
A diurnal rhythm of cell proliferation exists in the liver of young rodents and in the growing liver of rats treated with a-hexachlorocyclohexane (a-HCH). The timing of the rhythm is dependent on the time of feeding but independent from the lighting regimen. This suggests that under natural circumstances the light-dark rhythm synchronizes the rhythm of hepatocyte proliferation by con trolling the animals’ feeding habits.

C H IN A Synchronization of peripheral circadian clocks in rats by external time cues
Circadian clocks are present in a variety of tissues and cells in mammals and appear to be organized in a hierarchical manner. They are divided into a master clock that is localized in the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) and peripheral clocks in extra-SCN brain regions and peripheral tissues, such as heart and liver. The circadian clock is generally reset by environmental time cues, ...
متن کاملEffect of an Antagonist of Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide on Biological Rhythm of Rest Activity in the Rat
Abstract Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide (VIP), has been found in different neurotransmitter systems and exists in various nerve tracts in the brain. Potential role of this peptide in physiological processes such as regulation of sleep and wakefulness, and biological rhythms has been confirmed in several reports. In the present research effects of intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection of a...
متن کاملEntrainment of the circadian clock in the liver by feeding.
Circadian rhythms of behavior are driven by oscillators in the brain that are coupled to the environmental light cycle. Circadian rhythms of gene expression occur widely in peripheral organs. It is unclear how these multiple rhythms are coupled together to form a coherent system. To study such coupling, we investigated the effects of cycles of food availability (which exert powerful entraining ...
متن کاملCombination of starvation interval and food volume determines the phase of liver circadian rhythm in Per2::Luc knock-in mice under two meals per day feeding.
Although the circadian liver clock is entrained by the feeding cycle, factors such as food volume and starvation interval are poorly understood. Per2::Luc knock-in mice were given two meals per day with different food volume sizes and/or with different intervals of starvation between two mealtimes with the total food volume per day fixed at 3.6 g (80 food pellets, ∼75% of free feeding) per mous...
متن کاملGene regulation network fitting of genes involved in the pathophysiology of fatty liver in the mice by promoter mining
Background and Aim: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is the major cause of chronic liver disease in developed countries. In this study, we identified the most important transcription factors and biological mechanisms affecting the incidence of fatty liver disease using the promoter region data mining. Materials and Methods In this study, at first, the marker genes associated with this...
